EMPHERIS / CRYPTIC RITES “Netherworld Emissions (split CD)”

Release Date: August, 2011

Label: Psycho Records

In a world full of extreme metal, two Polish bands unite their powers and make their stand. Well, in fact, EMPHERIS have made their stand numerous times in the past, but in any case here they present three demonized tracks (plus two covers) of uncompromising, blackened thrash metal mostly influenced by early German bands such as SODOM and KREATOR. While, obviously, not reinventing the wheel in any way, their songs sound refreshing enough and definitely worth some good, old moshing. As far as the covers are concerned, their view on DEATH’s “Corpsegrinder” is a good performance, loyal to the original but I’ll prefer the one of “Hans Siste Vinter” from DARKTHRONE.

CRYPTIC RITES on the other hand, are a newer band with three demos and an EP forging their CV and focus more on the classic Florida style of death metal. While they create some crude riffs, enhanced by the trademark SLAYER-ic solos, they still need an extra touch to make their music exceptional. Dynamics and some changes in tempo are they phrases here. They close their side in a good way though, by covering with respect in more noisy, death metal way the all-tme classic “Remember The Fallen” from the mighty SODOM.
